I used to teach in the classroom and the thing I noticed that held my students back more than anything was their attitude about math, or about themselves and math.
I taught kids with ADHD, and Aspergers, GT kids, kids with anxiety in general or just about math and, of course, mainstream kiddos.
And the students who believed they could learn and do the math are the ones who succeeded no matter the obstacles.
If I heard the statement, "I'm just bad at math" once, I heard it a thousand times. In fact those students were the ones who struggled the most.
The students who believed they could figure it out and that they could be good at math had totally different experiences.
I've also noticed in sessions with my tutoring students that some just shut down (until I help them our of it) because they get so discouraged about the current assignment and blame the person who "discovered math".
I run a SAT study group of no more than 6 students. In each group session, your child learns the micro skills needed do the math, of course, and how recognize the different types of problems that will show up and what strategies to use depending on the types of problems.
But, more importantly, in these sessions, your child will come to believe in themselves no matter what thoughts are currently holding them back. This translates to confidence before, during and after the SAT.
